Tree decorating at the Stars!

     Last night was supposed to be us finishing up our Christmas decorating.  Well... See I have this silly little girl that is really a joy to hang out with but she has a hard time hanging ornaments and pouring her life out at the same time. ;).  

It was a lot of fun hearing all about her friends and their drama and her take on everybody and their lives.  You just wouldn't believe the things kids have to deal with today though.  Good thing she has a really strong standard and a good head on her shoulders.  (patting myself on the back there). 

So here are just a few fun picks of how far we got with the tree and how silly she can be.  I'm gonna miss this little one when she's all grown up.  Juliet and I look back at all the pics of her throughout the years and how in every single one she's silly or making a crazy face.  Yep, I'm saving them!  Sure gonna come in handy sometime!  

This is seriously as far as we made it tonight.  Didn't even get to the star which is our favorite part because we are the Stars right?!?!  It's ok though cause we had the best time hanging out.  She's the last little one in our house (outside of Charlie) and it's really all for her and bug anyway.  I love my girls like crazy, I will cut you if you hurt them or make them cry, kinda love.  I'm a blessed mama indeed.  Ps. Greg, that is your painting sitting on the hutch behind the tree.  Dre was painting the room and when he re-hung it..it fell and busted the frame.  So of corse I freaked out!  It will get a brand new frame and go right back up in my wall.  I mention this because I know you notice every little thing. :) bahahahaha. DIY- How to make your own lipgloss.

What a nice weekend.  I was able to cuddle by the fire, spend time with Charlie, Jupiter and Dre, cook and visit the mountains.  It was for sure one of the coldest weekends yet this fall but I really had a good time staying home and chilling out.  

On Sunday, I decided to try this DIY recipe for homemade lipgloss.  It only involves two ingredients; Coconut Oil and Color Crayons.  I know, sounds weird,  but not so much if you realize crayons are mostly wax and color pigments that are food grade and non-toxic.  So I had a blast making a few different colors.  I used a drop or two of peppermint oil and Vanilla so that they would smell awesome and tingle my lips.  the Coconut oil is great for your lips this fall with the weather getting cooler.  This project took hardly any time at all.  You can pick the containers up at any craft store for around a few bucks a pack.

Supplies

Break the Crayons.

Use small glass/ceramic dish placed in pan.  Fill with water to just barely cover the bottom of the dish.  Place Crayons and two teaspoons of coconut oil in the dish and melt.  This will go fairly quickly so be very careful.  When it’s melted, take off the stove and use a spatula and mittens to handle the dish.   

Coming to a melting point, you can stir to ensure even consistency. (This is Dres hand, not mine, lol)

Toward the end you can add a few drops of peppermint oil or any other essential oil of your choosing.

Again, remember when taking off the stove to be very careful.  I used a teaspoon meaning scoop to add the gloss to the containers.

Place containers on a small plate and let sit in freezer to harden for just a few minutes.  

Wa-La!  All done!

My day at home.

Hello my loves!
I woke up this morning with the most terrible migraine headache I've ever had and decided to stay in bed.  It was a good idea considering it was pouring down rain outside as well.  Somewhere around 9:00am  I stumbled out of bed, looked in the mirror and decided I should do something with myself. So I medicated myself, got dressed and hit the road for some Starbucks. 

Upon returning home, I decided to sleep, surf the net most of the day and arrange some of the room décor I've been slowly piecing together while my head was feeling better.

So I'm not the boring girl, I'm the bling girl!

 

You can't see the name of this nail polish from the pic but it's called "Formula X" for Sephora.  I love it because it has no harmful chemicals and goes on better than any brand I've tried.  Courtney came home the other day with this dark color and I loved it.  So I have the dark for Halloween and the gold for "all the time!", lol

 

So here you go so far.  I can't seem to find a mirror to go behind my laptop, so the search continues.  Next week I will be adding my desk accessories. 

 

 

So I'm not feeling good today.  This is what I'm reading.  Someday I will have enough time to finish.

Bedroom Makeover Update.

Hi Yall!
     I know I'm taking a minute on my bedroom makeover, just bare with me.  Sometimes you have to allow for life to happen in the process eh?  Today I was able to work more on the room and wanted to show you my progress so far.  I have painted my room,  added my desk (which is where I will be blogging) and applied some touches here and there.

       My final bedroom piece will be ordered so I'm not sure how long that will take to get in.  It's a wall storage unit with sliding doors that will take the place of my current dresser.  My current dresser which is antique will become my dining room server so stay tuned for that.  Maybe I will have it done by Christmas, lol.  Always so many plans and so little time.  So let's make the best of it shall we?  Check out below what I was able to complete  today.  Feel free to leave comments and share your own ideas, I would love to hear them! 

    

 

 

Here are a few more things left on the list to stay tuned for. 

 

1.  Paint the ceiling bright white with glitter in the center of the tray.  I haven't decided yet on the glitter part, but I saw one and it was gorgeous so maybe.  That's actually something that was very popular in the 60's - 70's.  They had these blower machines that worked for glitter kinda like the popcorn and today you can rent them.

2.  Paint the trim.  Which I'm leaning toward a metallic either silver or gold. 

3.  New curtains that will drape longer in the floor all princess-ee like and not be sheer.  I tried to get them from Joss & Main but they were sold out.  So we will see what else I can find. 

4.  Add the wall unit on empty wall.

DIY: Spoons, Forks and Knives.

I had a few minutes waiting for Little to be picked up,  so I decided to paint these lovely wooden utensils I bought the other day.  It's always nice to have something non-metal to grab for lunches or snacks through out the day.  You can find these at target in the party section.  They have so many new cool party supplies. 

 

 



Recycled Art

Greetings everbody!
It's been a few since I've been able to post, my apologies.  Today I am back with an art project that I created for my new bedroom makeover.  I had this painting that did not go with the modern vibe any where in my house.  I used an old painting and made it modern and added the needed texture for my white bedroom wall.

 First you need a good primer that will cover the oil paint.  This worked perfectly!

 Cover the painting with the primer and let dry for a few.  Make sure you get the edges around the painting as well or they will show when you hang it on the wall.

 Take an old sheet or piece of fabric and rip into strips.  I used an old flannel sheet for mine.  This takes a minute but is fairly easy to do.  After you get the fabric in strips, you just rip off smaller shorter sections and hot glue to the canvas.

 ...and we are all done!  Cant wait to see it on the wall.

Keeping your favorite flowers

I was gifted today with  roses and I thought I would share with everyone how I keep my flowers lasting forever! 

First you run a sink full of cold ice water.

Then you insert roses and let them soak for about 10 minutes or so.  Make sure the entire flower is submerged in the cold water.

Then wa-la!  Take them out of the water and arrange.  They should last you twice as long.  You can do this with other flowers, Hydrangeas especially like it.  Peonies, hydrangeas and white tulips are my favorite flower and every spring I do this.  Maybe next yr I will try it with daffodils since they don't seem to last long anyway.  

DIY Jeweled Sweatshirt

Happy ending to a busy weekend!  I was able to find a little time between traveling and home to put together my DIY Jeweled Sweatshirt as promised.

I really loved the way JCrew did a few of theirs but I didn't want to pay that JCrew price for a mere sweatshirt.  We save the $$ for more tailored classic pieces.  So this sweatshirt cost me a total of $16.00.  Which isn't bad considering the JCrew sweatshirts were around $69.00.  It's a cool fall time DIY that's fun to make.  You can play around with different designs and come up with your own. Have fun!

DIY Floor Mirror

I have been shedding pieces of old furniture making room for the new.  I had tried to sell this mirror to no avail.  So, instead of selling it I decided to give it a new look. 

Here is everything I used in the process.

DIY Custom Mugs

Oh I just love DIY days!  Today we let Juliet pick our project and she's been dying to try this one. Today we made custom mugs using sharpies and our oven.

So you just get your sharpies and color the mug with any design you like...

Place in a metal baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  They have to cool a good for a while afterwards so be careful they are hot.
