Keeping your favorite flowers

I was gifted today with  roses and I thought I would share with everyone how I keep my flowers lasting forever!

First you run a sink full of cold ice water.

Then you insert roses and let them soak for about 10 minutes or so.  Make sure the entire flower is submerged in the cold water.

Then wa-la!  Take them out of the water and arrange.  They should last you twice as long.  You can do this with other flowers, Hydrangeas especially like it.  Peonies, hydrangeas and white tulips are my favorite flower and every spring I do this.  Maybe next yr I will try it with daffodils since they don't seem to last long anyway.

Riverfest in Canton, Georgia

Hello everyone!
This year , this weekend, was the Hamilton County Fair and I opted out to check out Riverfest in Canton, Georgia.  This festival has been going on since the 80's.  All proceeds go to help the needy children in the area so it was a win/win to try something different this year.

This was the prettiest fall festival I think I've ever seen.  Such pretty mums and tons of pumpkins on every corner.  You really get the full essense of "autumn".

For all you out there that just love clowns, here ya go.  Probably the biggest kiddie area I've seen as well.  Everything from pony rides, train rides to balloons and clowns.

Another thing that was pretty cool was the many props placed throughout the fair for photo taking.  Like a gazillion.

This was the cutest ever.  A hat turned into a scarecrow face.  Hmmm, I bet I can make one!

There is my little about to munch down on some deep fried oreo cookies.  She ate all but one which I helped her with.... :). Yummy!

Everyone was in good spirits despite the cloudy day and low temps.  So nice to see local art and get some ideas for my DIY section.

This was kinda cool.  It's acrylic etching.  With all things acrylic in the preppy world from desk accessories to kitchen trays, this looked very eye catching.  Again...I so love anything that's shiny!

I particularly like this one.

There is little doing some Christmas shopping.      A lot of people don't know this about Juliet but she loves to collect miniature glass figurines.  Really, anything super tiny.  So she really liked this booth.

Now, these might look a bit gaudy but they are a perfect gift for our older generations.  You would have to see in person but there was a lot of origami involved and these angels are made with old church hymnals.  I guess the hymnals are near and dear to my heart coming from the southern baptist tradition before there were digital screens and services on iPads.

I see these at different places and I'm always amazed at how tiny and beautiful they are.  Also, how expensive!

Tons of shows to watch with the locals.  You can't tell but these two little boys were trying to do the hula dance with the girls on stage.  Just too cute!  I liked this because I remember somewhere around the 2nd grade we did a hula dance at school.  I loved it because I got to make my own grass skirt. Ah, the memories!

Way cool pic eh?  This is Little standing behind a piece of art.  Her uncle Greg said we should make her wear pants like these till she's 50.  I agree! Lol.

So that wraps up our trip down the road to Canton, Georgia.  Just a lovely day!  Topping it off having some bar-b-qu!  See y'all on the next one!

Campfire Orange Cake

Fall is here and time to put away the salad for more hearty foods.  It also the best weather for camping.  So we close the summer and start the fall with orange camp cakes.  This is a very simple recipe but a lot of fun to make.

This recipe is a great desert for camping weekends.

What you will need:
Oranges
Jiffy Cake Mix
Egg
Powdered sugar
Water
Aluminum foil

Cut the top off the orange and pull out all of the orange leaving an empty shell.

Mix the cake batter, eggs and water.  Pour cake mix into orange shells.  Place the orange tops on the cake filled orange and wrap in foil.    Place in oven and cook at 400 degrees checking every 20 minutes until done.

You can use a glaze or not.  If you do, just use powdered sugar, water and a little butter mixed together and cover the cake sparingly.  You can also use different flavors of cake.  Keep in mind that the orange shell will flavor the cake to a certain degree.  If your camping, these are easily placed in a camp fire to cook slowly.

Is It Autumn Yet?

Happy Fall Everyone!

I woke up this morning and it was so cold.  I slept so hard I could barely move.  I'm up during the week at 5:00am and today was amazingly hard to get going.  So, no shower, no makeup and no hair brush as I stole a few extra minutes with Charlie before work.

See Charlie feels the same way I do this morning.  He's the best snuggle pup ever!

Back to it being fall, I was able to get a few things out last night to help celebrate the changing of the seasons.

I  am ready for cooler weather (not cold just yet) and ready for outside festivities to commence. I love pumpkin spice lattes and corn mazes and all the cool fairs that show up this time of year.  I will be blogging as many as I can so stay tuned...
Now y'all go and have the best first fall day ever!

DIY Jeweled Sweatshirt

Happy ending to a busy weekend!  I was able to find a little time between traveling and home to put together my DIY Jeweled Sweatshirt as promised.

Hot Glue
Beads
Sweatshirt
Patience

I really loved the way JCrew did a few of theirs but I didn't want to pay that JCrew price for a mere sweatshirt.  We save the $$ for more tailored classic pieces.  So this sweatshirt cost me a total of $16.00.  Which isn't bad considering the JCrew sweatshirts were around $69.00.  It's a cool fall time DIY that's fun to make.  You can play around with different designs and come up with your own. Have fun!

It's a Vanity Fair morning

Flipping through my mag this morning getting ready to head down to Atlanta in a few.  I just couldn't help but share a few things.  This being one of my favorite mags.

Oh look what's trending... I am the girl still wearing wejuns bass penny loafers and in my opinion is still...the best damn shoe in the world! These are cute tho and I love the shiny.

Looky looky, it's the classic Burberry scarf.  A real staple for winter and I have it.  Best scarf ever!

And HELLOOO, I just threw this in for the ladies.  Such a handsome man.  Gotta love Vanity Fair because people don't have to take their clothes off to be beautiful.   See this guys?  While your expecting women to be Jennifer Anniston, we expect you to be this!  Seriously!

Still my favorite smell for my boys.

This months issue had a quote for my mom! Lol.  Love u mama!

For all you people out there hooked on all things Michael Kors, this smell is pretty good!

When I'm in my upper 50's or 60's this will be my designer of choice...Eileen Fisher!  Such comfy clothes.

For as long as I live I will always take ideas from Tommy.  I may not sport their brand but I love their timeless textures and prints.  Like you just know there's snow outside your cabin and hot chocolate is a brewing at the lodge.

Whatever this is...buy it.  It smells delicious!

Why can't this be trending for men instead of sneakers, baggy pants and pajama pants?  We would much rather see this!

And finally... Why I bought the mag!  Love this guy!!  This was fun, see you guys tomorrow for my JCrew DIY...

what..

What i'm making right now...  a mess, with a cinnamon crunch bagel and hazelnut cream cheese @ Panera Bread

what i'm drinking right now...  bottled water so I will feel better about downing this cinnamon crunch bagel with hazelnut cream cheese.

what i'm reading these days... a lot of twitter, the Essene teachings and Net-A-Porter magazine.  All not necessarily in that order.  Don't worry Paulo Coelho, I will return!

What i'm wanting these days...  this apartment in Greenwich Village Manhattan!!!  <<<need I say more?????>>>>>>>>

what i'm looking for at the moment...  a place far enough away from my Chiron planetary line so that the wounds of my past are buried forever, and ever and ever!  Goodbye exe's... Goodbye drama!

what my secret wish is...  that the JCrew shop would be open right now at the mall and i would be there right now instead of right here.  here is ok too, but not as good.

what i'm bookmarking and pitching a fit over...  Brains on Fire!  a really cool blog.

what's trending right now that i love and i think i can make it instead of upping my credit card...  JCrew jeweled sweatshirt.

what i did on my break today...  randomly decided to figure out my face shape once and for all.  it's all so confusing.  i'm a diamond by the way... of course i am!!!!

y'all have a good evening and see you here tomorrow.

It's only Tuesday

Yes, it's only Tuesday and my whole world has changed as I know it.  Family things that needed to be, work things that still need to be, and healthy things that demand to be.  In the process of all this, perceptions changed forever and space freed up in my head that something new might fit now.  let me tell ya, I'm always gonna be OK cause I'm gonna chase the sun.  I'm gonna go where the end of the earth meets the blue and there for me will be a new self...

it's a lot about letting birds fly and dodging poop.  it's more about my own wings and bending bars.  taking roads i wanna go down instead of being dragged down.  feeling completion of things taught even if they aren't chosen.  wishing well to others and that they have eyes to see their way cause mine no longer lent.
<<<<<<it's straight ahead where I run into me>>>>>>

it's not about goodbyes or apologies, but humble surrender of prayerful love.  suitcase full of memories that when opened, explode the giggles of childhood.  it's permission to be me, to be free.  no titles, no expectations, no demands of unspoken duties.  more than anything it is...just...merely... time...
